SF Giants Rumors / Trade Rumors 2011: Spring Games Begin

The Realistic Giants Fan: Spring is not About Game Results.

The Games have begun. The Giants have taken 2 out of 3 so far and Pablo is looking good. So far he has 2 homers. Not too much can be read into Spring Training. These games are more about getting work in than trying to win. Still, things can be found encouraging. Brandon Belt is not getting much playing time, so far. It seems pretty likely that he is not in the opening day plans and that's okay. Things on this roster are already pretty crowded, so there just may not be a spot for him. Sabean said he will start or go to Triple A. Ishikawa is a shoe in for backup first basemen.

Cain looked real good yesterday, according to all reports. 2 quick innings in his spring debut. I would not be the least surprised if he emerges as this year's ace. I have always thought more highly of Cain than Lincecum. Timmy is awesome. I love him to death, but, Cain is a horse built to eat innings. There's just something extremely comforting about his presence. He is pretty consistent and just keeps getting better. He was here through at least a part of all the poor seasons at the end of the previous decade. He and Mike Murphy are the two members of the team I feel most happy for.

The rotation has been set. I don't really get why the Giants insist on separating the righties. To me, I think you should run out your 2 best pitchers 1-2, but they won a championship, so apparently they know what they are doing. Thankfully, Zito has been moved back to the 4th slot. I have already seen complaints about that, as people want Bumgarner to take the spot, but, Zito is the veteran, which means he is going to win all close calls. Bumgarner will have plenty of time to move up in the rotation.

Some stories are a little obvious and seem to be just filler. I, myself, try to have an article every Monday and Friday, but sometimes there is just nothing to say. Of course, I am not paid and the only luxury that entails is being able to write when I want. If I was paid then I would definitely be able to write more often because I could focus on things way more. Heck, I'd probably be in Arizona right now. Still, there would be times where I'm sure the barrel would be dry. This, obviously, was one of those days. The official site has a story that claims the key to scoring runs will be production from the middle of the order. Really? You don't say. How insightful. Glad I read that. There is a ton of false insight in sports. A lot of the time it's just recycled rhetoric. The one that gets to me the most is when football analysts say that a game will come down to "a battle at the lines". In case you don't realize, every football game is a battle at the lines. If your offensive and defensive lines play poorly, you'll lose. Duh.
